M. Stachowicz, J. Mażulis, K. Granat, A. Janus, Wroclaw University of Technology,Department of Foundry Engineering and Automation, Wrocław, Poland The paper presents the results of applying microwaves to support the drying, redrying and hardening process of molding and core sands made of different types of matrix. In the tests of the microwave heating process a slot line measuring stand was used. Being based on the dielectric parameter measurement it enabled the evaluation of power losses of microwaves penetrating: chromite, magnesite, corundum, zircon and silica molding matrix samples. The survey revealed an impact of humidity and chemical compound of sands on microwave absorption. The study enabled the systematization of knowledge about the influence of selected types of matrix on the effectiveness of the microwave heating process.

Shielding radiation from both x-rays and gamma-rays is important for personnel in medical fields e.g. interventional radiology, nuclear power stations, and other inspection facilities where radiation is involved. Lead is known for its effective shielding property against these high energy radiations, however heaviness and toxicity are its main drawback. In this study effectiveness of non-lead p...
متن کاملAnalysis of total metals in waste molding and core sands from ferrous and non-ferrous foundries.
Waste molding and core sands from the foundry industry are successfully being used around the world in geotechnical and soil-related applications. Although waste foundry sands (WFSs) are generally not hazardous in nature, relevant data is currently not available in Argentina. This study aimed to quantify metals in waste molding and core sands from foundries using a variety of metal-binder combi...
متن کاملLaboratory Investigation on the Influence of Cyclic Water Injection Pressure on Sands Hydraulic Conductivity
Hydraulic conductivity variations around the boreholes in uniformly graded sands for cyclic water injection pressure have been evaluated by laboratory tests. Prototype laboratory devices have been designed and constructed for this research. The cell has a capability to model the well, the boundary condition and to measure the hydraulic conductivity. While increasing water injection pressure, hy...
متن کاملOn the Study of Mechanical Properties of Aluminum/Nano-Alumina Composites Produced via Powder Injection Molding
Powder Injection Molding (PIM) is a precision manufacturing process used for production of advanced composites. Mixing of polymeric binder with metal powders, molding of feedstock, de-binding of brown parts and sintering of green samples are four main steps of this process. In the present study, the compounds containing multi-component binder system and aluminum/ nano-alumina (0-9 wt.%) powders...
